Types of Clutch Racing
 

Single-Disc Clutches Plate

Single-disc clutch plates are popular among racers for their simplicity and reliability. They consist of a single friction disc that engages and disengages the engine's power to the transmission. The main advantage of single-disc clutch plate is their straightforward design, which makes them easier to install, maintain, and replace than complex clutch systems.

Twin-Disc Clutches Plate

Twin-disc (AKA dual-disc) clutch plates can handle high torque, making them ideal for high-performance racing applications. Twin-disc clutches feature two friction discs, which increase the surface area for torque transfer and improve clamping force. Clutch Racing Materials

Organic

Organic material is common to all stock clutch discs, and offers the best drivability but has limitations as operating temperatures rise. Under high loads accompanied by slippage, they fade because their coefficient of friction drops off. In addition, at high RPM and high temperature they tend to fail structurally.

Bronze Metallic

Bronze metallic (paddle discs) is the most aggressive materials in terms of engagement. It offers extended life using reduced static pressures, and a quick, clean engagement. Bronze metallic is aggressive on the flywheel surface and should be used only with steel or nodular iron friction surfaces. On the street, this material will cause chatter on engagement.

Sintered Iron

Sintered iron is well known for its ability to withstand some slippage and not loose its coefficient of friction. A: Paper-based friction plates are made by impregnating plant fibers or synthetic fibers (as the base material) with binders such as resin. They are characterized by a high and low-fluctuation friction coefficient, a low wear rate, and minimal wear to mating components (e.g., metal discs). They are more suitable for medium and low-load, high-frequency clutch/braking scenarios, such as automatic automotive transmissions and hydraulic clutches in small construction machinery. In contrast, copper-based friction plates are suitable for heavy-load and high-temperature environments, while paper-based friction plates are mostly used in light-duty equipment where low-cost requirements are prioritized.
